UK-FOOD [RESTAURANT] Burger Joint

Burger Joint
http://www.theburgerjoint.co.uk/

Price: All burgers £ 7.95

After I posted the burger photo of 'Burger Theory' on Facebook, I got the information that 'Burger Joint' is the best in Bristol. So we went there with Ruby and Annemieke during their visiting.

The branch we went is on Whiteladies Road, Clifton.

You can choose your own topping, sauce, main ingredient and a side dish. Amazingly loads of different choices!

The sweet potato fries is brilliant!

When you are choosing your burger you really need to be careful not to pick too many ingredients. Otherwise you might end up really full. Strongly recommend and definitely will go back later.

UK-FOOD [RESTAURANT] Yume Kitchen

YUME

This Japanese restaurant has two branches. The headquarter is on Cotham Hill which we went on the street food party day. A new branch is on Regent Street.

The lunch meal price is around £4-10. Not a bad price. We ordered Vegetable Maki (sushi), Vegetable Yakisoba and Tempura Udon.

Someone can't wait after my photo. @__@ Their sushi is really, really nice!

Because of the street food party, every restaurant put the tables under the sun. :)

Our main dish was too tasty so I forgot to take the photos. :(
I strongly recommend my Tempura Udon! With prawns, squids and vegetables, very tasty also very spicy! Their udon is the best I ever had in the UK! Most restaurant's udon I had was a bit sour, I have no idea why. But even the one I cook myself also has weird sour taste...... So nowadays everytime when I cook udon I always put them in the boiling water first then throw away the water...... But their udon doesn't have weird taste. And the seafood in the soup is amazing! Fresh and quite a lot! As the price (£5.90) I definitely recommend!

UK-FOOD [RESTAURANT] Pie Minister

Pieminister
24 Stokes Croft, Bristol

Price: Classic Pies all £4.50

The first Pieminister started at Stokes Croft, Bristol. Now they are also in St. Nicholas Market, London, Oxford and even Amsterdam! (Woohoo~ we won't miss pie too much when in NL~)

Classic beef pie with mash potato.

  Fish pie with salad.

When I first saw the fish pie I was worried that it would be too small for me. But it's actually enough for a meal! Traditional British dish. Their fish pie is really lovely~ with a glass of white wine just too good to be true!!

Not only their restaurant but also many pubs in Bristol offer 'pie from Pieminister'. You can find them in some markets, too.

Why not give their award winning pie a try? ;)

UK-FOOD [PUB] Watershed Cafe-Bar

Watershed Cafe Bar
1 Canon's Road, Harbourside, BS1 5TX
Price: main meal from £7-13

Watershed is a cinema with it's own cafe and bar. Every Tuesday they offer 'Cinébites' - get a cinema ticket for the Tuesday evening (after 17:00) film of your choice, plus a voucher ticket to use in the Café/Bar for a meal and a drink. Which is a great bargain but last time we wanted to buy it, it was sold out. So better be quick!

Vegetable stew with fresh bread. Too bad we didn't get the Cinebite.

A great choice to have a pre-theater meal. You can order drink here and tell them you are going to take it into the cinema then they will give you a plastic cup. Film tickets are always cheaper before 15:00.

UK-FOOD [PUB] Burger Theory

Burger Theory
Find them at 'The Golden Lion' pub.
244 Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8NZ
Burger Price: £5.50-£8.75

We saw their stand at 'Redland May Fair' but we didn't try their burger. Fortunately they are at 'The Crofters Rights' this week, so we had a chance to visit them.

They offer more options on the menu at 'The Golden Lion'.

   Haba-oh-no burger.
8oz beef patty infused w/ Habanero chillies, lime, garlic and cumin w/ after-burn cheddar and sweet Habanero relish.  £7 with chips.

My burger is hot, but not mentally hot. If you like habanero chilli then you will like this burger. The bread is nice and fresh. The beef is juicy and had lots of nice flavor. Strongly recommend.

H said his 'Halle-loumi' veg burger is the best veg burger he ever had. One nice thing we love about Bristol is, every restaurant has few vegetarian options for veg people. If you are sick of meat, why not choose some nut roast or veg burger? Always nice. :)

£7.50 for five different 1/3 pints
   Cider Tasting.

Don't want to have pizza? They offer nice pie, too.

The price here is a little bit high for a meal. Although it's a nice restaurant and fresh ingredient. We were lucky when we arrived cuz they were fully booked. We had about 1.5 hours before the reservation people came. Better book a table before you pop in. :)

UK-FOOD [CAFE] Hooper House

Hooper House
http://hooperhouse.co.uk
113 Stokes Croft, Bristol, BS1 3RW

This cafe is right next to The Crofters Rights. Run by Carly, who is Mark's flatmate. (I know Mark from Happytat.) Actually after I started to do volunteering at Happytat I found that many shops on Stokes Croft are connected. Happytat to Treasure to Pop-up Bakery. And now Hooper House. :) Which is really amazing.

At Hooper House they do coffee, cakes and light meals. Mostly soup with bread. The daily soup menu will be on the board right in front of the café.

Hooper House.

Homemade carrot cake (£2.50) and Latté (£2.20).

After a nice morning tea why not walk from here to Gloucester Road? Enjoy a great afternoon out and check all the interesting local shops there. :)))

UK-FOOD [MARKET] St. Nicholas Market

St Nicholas Market
The Exchange, Corn Street, Bristol BS1 1JQ

Google it then you will find a lot of information about it. It's reported as one of the 'Top 10 markets in the UK' by the Guardian. There's Weekly Market, The Glass Arcade and The Corn Exchange. Food stands only open Monday to Saturday. Around 11:00-15:00. If you are there too late then you won't find much food left. This is our favorite market for lunch in Bristol! Italian, Eat a Pitta, Juice Bar, Bristol Sausage Shop, Portuguese Taste, Olive Company, Pie Minister, Caribbean Wrap...... So many different brilliant street food! Every Friday on Corn Street also has Friday food market which means more food stands available!!! If you miss this market don't tell anyone you've come to Bristol......

Caribbean Wrap. The food was too delicious so I forgot to take photo before eating it.

   Fresh Juice Bar.

The food is around £5 a meal. There's just too many choices. Every time I go there I always want to have different food! You just can't find anything not nice there......

UK-FOOD [RESTAURANT] Rocco's

Rocco's
4a Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8AE

Price: £4-16

As an Italian restaurant, Rocco's is a popular, affordable and typical Italian restaurant in Bristol. We found it on the internet as my birthday dinner place.

The food will never make you down. Just feel like you are in Italy as the staffs there are most Italian. But they do have few admin problems as our last visit, although we've rang them for reservation, they were shocked when we arrived (apparently they forgot to put our name). So the restaurant ended up fitting sort of tight and crowded. And we ordered some bread but they forgot to serve. Also our starter was later than main dish...... But they did apologize about it....

   The restaurant front photo.

My main dish was seafood risotto and H had pizza which he said is bloody good.

Although the service was not incredibly good but the waitresses were kind and polite. We don't feel any problem about their mistake anyway. The restaurant was fully booked on a Saturday evening. The environment is cosy and nice. :)

UK-FOOD [PUB] [SUNDAY ROAST] Hillgrove Porter Stores

Hillgrove Porter Stores
53 Hillgrove St N, BS2 8LT

Price: Sunday roast £8-10

This pub is like some pubs in the UK which only offer Sunday Roast as their food menu. A really cosy and small local pub. They accept reservation after 2pm. When you ring them you have to tell them which roast you want to order. Our experience is, the reservation only reserve 'food' not 'seat'. Better arrive early otherwise you just can't find a seat....

Sunday roast always have meat and vegetarian option.

They have quite a few nice local craft beer. Always a good choice for a night out with friends.

[Updates]

We visited Hillgrove again for Sunday Roast. We didn't make reservation this time but we went there around 5pm. It was a nice day so we sat at the gardens. I had chicken roast and H had vegetarian as always.

Hillgrove's roast is famous of the garlic roast as you can see on the photos. It does taste really nice but also very strong. Both times I can only had maximum 3 gloves then I have to stop. Otherwise I wouldn't dare to open my mouth again after food ha!

Hillgrove is also the first pub we eat which offers apple sauce. Someone was really happy about that and almost finish half of the jar.....

UK-FOOD [PUB] The Pipe & Slippers

Pipe & Slippers
118 Cheltenham Road, Stokes Croft, Bristol BS6 5RW

Price: Sunday Roast £8-10

We found this pub on tripadvisor for Sunday roast. In the UK almost all the pubs offer nice Sunday roast. It's a shame that we didn't know about Sunday roast until we've lived here for 4 months.

This Pub is kind of at the bottom of Stokes Croft. Also has live music at night which attracts loads of people as a night out. Excellent craft beers. Great music.

My beef roast. This is the only roast I had without peas ha!

Sunday morning is not too busy. We arrived early and had a great spot.

Around Bristol there's a lot of pubs offers great roast. We always go to different ones and you just can't find anything wrong with them. :)))
